what's up, the name's Re (pronounced like 'Ray') and this is my personal tumblr.
I think that what may possibly be my favorite thing about the Legend of Korra
even more than the fact that it is basically an Asian-inspired steampunk cartoon about revolutionary factions with a brown female lead (and wow did I never think I would be typing that sentence)
is how there are so many completely devoted fans.
I mean, this is PROOF that a lead doesn’t have to be a euro-descended male to garner a huge following. this is PROOF that the network execs and commentators who say ‘well we’d love to have more women, more Asians, more brown people in our shows—we’d love to center a show around non-western systems of belief and cultures—but unfortunately the public is racist/sexist/xenophobic and they just won’t bite! CAPITALISM.’
all of the people who say that, both inside and outside the industry
are full of shit.
